DID YOU KNOW...
Senior wide receiver Courtney Roby needs only 13 receptions and 279 yards to become IU's career leader in both categories.
IU has three touchdowns this season of 90-plus yards. This is the first time in the history of the program that this feat has been accomplished. The 1945 Hoosiers team was the last to score two touchdowns over 90 yards in the same season.
Saturday's game against Michigan will be televised live on ABC. It will be the first time the Hoosiers will be on ABC since Oct. 14, 2000 season at then No.18 - Michigan.
AMONG THE BIG TEN LEADERS
Junior linebacker Kyle Killion is atop the Big Ten Conference in tackles per game, averaging 11.0. He is also tied for second in the league with three sacks. Killion ranks in the top five, fourth overall, in tackles for loss with 5.5. Senior safety Herana-Daze Jones and junior linebacker Paul Szczesny are tied for 12th with 8.2 tackles per game. Sophomore defensive end Kenny Kendal and Jones are tied for the Big Ten lead with a pair of forced fumbles. On the offensive side of the ball, Courtney Roby is fourth in the Big Ten in receiving yards (93.0) and fifth in receptions per game (5.25). BenJarvus Green-Ellis is fifth in the league, averaging 92 rushing yards per game.
NEW WRINKLE AT THE TIGHT END POSITION
Tight end Chris Rudanovic caught his first career touchdown pass in the second quarter against Michigan State. It marked the first TD reception by a Hoosier tight end since Nov. 23, 2002, when tight end Stephen Anthony caught a five-yard TD pass against Purdue.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Michigan is 3-1 on the season after a 30-17 win over Iowa in its Big Ten opener on Saturday. Wide receiver Braylon Edwards led the Wolverines with six catches for 150 yards and a touchdown. Michigan won its 23rrd consecutive Big Ten opener, as quarterback Chad Henne was 16-of-26 for 236 yards. Michigan opened the season with a 43-10 victory at home over Miami (Ohio). The Wolverines then dropped a 28-20 decision at Notre Dame and closed out their non-conference campaign with a 24-21 win against San Diego State. Edwards is among national leaders, averaging 125 receiving yards per game.
MICHIGAN CONNECTIONS
Seven Indiana football members have ties with the Michigan area. Safeties coach Curt Mallory has the most direct ties, as he began his football career with the Wolverines, first as a player then as a student assistant coach (1992). While at Michigan, Mallory earned a pair of letters (1989 and 1990) and was a part of five Big Ten championships in Ann Arbor from 1988-1992.
Six players also hail from the state of Michigan. Senior starter Jodie Clemons (Lansing, Mich.), junior center Brandon Hatcher (Detroit, Mich.), freshman safety Isaac Price (Southfield, Mich.), freshmen wide receivers James Bailey (Detroit, Mich.) and Marcus Thigpen (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) and freshman offensive tackle DeWayne Roland (Lathrup, Mich.) all hail from the Great Lakes State.
BENNETT SETS SCHOOL RECORD
Sophomore Lance Bennett had a school record 94-yard punt return for a touchdown against Michigan State. Bennett broke Steve Porter's record of 93 yards against Wisconsin on Oct. 24, 1970. It was the first punt return for a touchdown since Thomas Lewis scampered 58 yards at Northwestern on Oct. 23, 1993.
