Hoosiers Knock Off Cardinals, 3-0

IU received goals from junior Nikki Orciuch, sophomore Lydia Schrott and freshman Frederique Meeuwen. Schrott also added a team-high six shots, while Meeuwen scored her first collegiate career goal in an IU uniform.
After a scoreless first half in which the Hoosiers attempted nine shots to Ball State's one, IU turned up its offensive and defensive pressure in the second half. The Hoosiers out shot Ball State, 17-4 in the second half.
"We were a little bit excited at the start of the game, a little too excited," head coach Amy Robertson said. "In the second half, we started making smarter passes, which created more opportunities for us."
Indiana got its first goal from Orciuch off of a rebounded shot from Ryan Woosley, two minutes into the second half. Ten minutes later, Schrott added her seventh career goal, while Meeuwen added the final goal of the game at the 61st minute.
"We hustled today," Schrott said. "We played a more aggressive game, and played smarter during the game."
Overall, 20 players saw action for the Hoosiers, who used their speed and depth to wear down Ball State.
"We played with a lot of speed today, and it also helped that were playing at home on turf that we know really well," said Robertson. "We also played together. The whole team played together."
For the game the Hoosiers took 26 shots and had an edge of 10-7 in corner shots. Goalkeeper Katie Kanara added three saves in the win.
The Hoosiers return to action on Sunday, Sept. 5, against Southwest Missouri State at 2 p.m. at the Mellencamp Pavilion.
