BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - First-year women's golf head coach Clint Wallman and his Hoosiers will open their 2004-05 season at the Lady Northern Invitational on Sept. 11-12 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
2004 Lady Northern Invitational: The Lady Northern will serve as a preview of the 2005 Big Ten Championships as all 11 Big Ten schools will get a chance to compete and survey the University of Michigan Golf Course. In addition to all 11 conference teams, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kent State and Notre Dame will join the 2004 field playing 54 holes in the two day tournament.
Closer Look at the Teams: The 2004 Lady Northern field features six teams ranked or receiving votes in Golfworld's Preseason Women's Coaches Poll. Big Ten foes Ohio State and Michigan State are ranked in the top 25 at No. 8 and No. 24 respectively. Northwestern, Kent State, Oklahoma and Purdue are receiving votes in the preseason poll.
On The Tee: Seniors Bethany Brunner (Martinsville, Ind.), Katie Carlson (Livonia, Mich.), Lissa Putnam (Bloomington, Ind.), junior Molly Redfearn (Racine, Wis.), and freshmen Kendal Hake (Palatine, Ill.) and Elaine Harris (San Francisco, Calif.) with represent IU this weekend.
Ready and Able: The 2004-05 Hoosiers return two notable players from last year's squad. Junior Molly Redferan competed in 31 rounds and finished with the third-best stroke average on the team (78.03). She had her highest finish, sixth overall, at the BU-Tapatio Springs Shootout. Fifth-year senior Bethany Brunner played in 27 rounds last year and finished with a stroke average of 82.37. She had her best finish at the BU-Tapatio Springs Shootout, tied for 12th overall.
We'll Miss You: The Hoosiers will have to replace three players lost to graduation that made significant contributions during the 2003-04 season. Danah Ford won a pair of tournaments last season, including the Big ten Championships, and had the best stroke average on the team (75.06). Karen Dennison also won two tournaments last season and closed the year with the second-best stroke average (75.38). The third member of the trio was Ambry Bishop, who played in 31 rounds, and had an average (80.29).
