Overton entered the final round trailing Scrimenti by six shots but came through with a final-round 67, as Scrimenti fired a 74, to capture the overall title. The Evansville, Ind., native also overtook Dalton Melnyk, who finished with 278 (72-65-70-71), on the final day.
The third-ranked golfer in Golfweek's latest rakings also held off Kentucky senior John Holmes (282) and Vanderbilt star Luke List (283), who was a finalist at the U.S. Amateur Championships this summer. Overton was a semifinalist at the U.S. Amateur, losing to eventual champion Ryan Moore, 2 and 1.
In addition to Overton, IU walk-on Aaron Knapp finished tied for 35th at 295 (74-76-71-74), and junior Scott Seibert tied for 42nd with 297 (74-72-77-74).
