Goalkeeper Preview

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Hoosiers will have, once again, the anchor of their defense in senior goalkeeper Jessica Goldner. The Los Altos Hills, Calif., native has been a second team All-CWPA selection each of the last two seasons.
In 2004, Goldner turned in a stellar 4.60 goals against average, while facing 17 of 29 opponents ranked among the national top 20. She has posted 20 matches of 10 or more saves over the last two years. Goldner will have a chance to pass her tutelage on to a pair of incoming freshmen in Jackie Pyrz and Jenny Gonzales.
"We are as healthy there as we have ever been as far as quantity goes," head coach Barry King said. "We expect Jessie to take a major amount of the minutes there and continue what she has done the last few years. She had another terrific summer, and I expect her to be the bedrock of a really good defensive unit."
Both Pyrz and Gonzales were National Interscholastic Coaches Association High School All-Americans in 2004. Pryz was a second-team selection, while Gonzales was a third-team choice. Pyrz was Miss Water Polo in the state of Pennsylvania in 2004. Gonzales was a two-time All-American after earning fifth team NISCA honors her junior season as well.
"I think for both Jackie and Jenny the situation they are coming into is very beneficial," King said. "They have a senior goalkeeper in front of them that is very experienced and willing to share her experience. They can see the work Jesse does and how it pays off in game situations."
