Season Preview

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The standards for Indiana water polo over have continually grown over the last eight years and the 2005 campaign has expectations just as high. Indiana returns all but two players from a team that went 20-9 and finished third in the College Water Polo Association in 2004.
The Hoosiers return 13 letterwinners and add five newcomers to the fold of a program that spent 11 of 15 weeks ranked among the top 10 in the country a season ago. IU finished the year ranked 13th in the American Water Polo Coaches Association (AWPCA) top 20.
Indiana returns three all-conference selections (Krista Peterson, Jessica Goldner and Kandace Waldthaler) as well as a two-time honorable mention All-American selection in senior Krista Peterson. Goldner returns as the anchor in the defense at the goalkeeper position. She had a goals against average of 4.60 in 2004, while becoming the school's all-time leader in saves and shots faced. Waldthaler and Peterson return as the Hoosier leaders in nearly every offensive category during the 2004 campaign.
The Hoosiers will have the luxury of hosting the CWPA Eastern Championship on April 30 and 31. The winner in the conference title will earn one of five automatic bids to the NCAA Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich., May 13-15.
