Hoosiers Called to MNT Camp (1-26-05)

Noonan finished his career ranked sixth on the Hoosiers' all-time points list with 127 and seventh on the goals list at 48. The Ballwin, Mo., native earned All-America honors on three occasions during his career and was the runner-up for the 2002 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy. Noonan was a first round selection of the New England Revolution in 2003 and led the league in scoring this past season.
Garcia was a mainstay on the Hoosiers' backline during his three-year career. He was the runner-up for the Hermann Trophy in 1999. Garcia was a three-time All-American and led the Hoosiers to back-to-back national titles in 1998 and 1999. He was named the College Cup Defensive Most Valuable Player both seasons. Garcia was the second overall selection of the Kansas City Wizards in 2000, and remains with the team.
The camp will be held, Jan. 24-Feb. 7 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Of the 28 players called to training camp, 27 are Major League Soccer players, while one is a USL player. The USA will depart for Trinidad on Feb. 7 after relocating to South Florida, where several European-based players are expected to join the squad after competing in their league matches that weekend.
The match against Trinidad & Tobago will be held in Port of Spain, Trinidad at the Queen's Park Oval. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. ET (3:30 p.m. local), and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN2. After Trinidad, the U.S. plays in a pair of qualifiers at the end of March. Following a trip to Mexico on March 27, the USA will open its home schedule of final round qualifying on Wednesday, March 30 at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala. Kickoff against Guatemala is set for 7 p.m. CT, and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN2. The U.S. will play 10 games in the final round of qualifying for the 2006 FIFA World Cup from Feb. 9-Oct. 13, 2005. The USA, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama and Trinidad & Tobago are competing for three automatic berths to the World Cup finals in Germany. The fourth-place finisher will face the fifth-place team from the Asian Football Confederation in a home-and-home series to determine the last entrant into the tournament.
