O'Rourke Honored in SI (1-27-05)

O'Rourke started 83 matches during his four years at Indiana and was a captain on Cream and Crimson's back-to-back NCAA National Championship teams in 2003 and 2004. During his Hoosier career, IU went 69-15-9 with four regular season Big Ten championships, two Big Ten Tournament championships and three College Cup Final appearances.
The Hoosier defense posted a 0.60 goals against average including 46 shutouts under O'Rourke's leadership. In 2004, O'Rourke had two goals and four assists on the offensive end. He assisted on the game-winning goal in IU's come-from-behind national semifinal win over Maryland.
He was a two-time unanimous first team All-Big Ten selection and two-time first team NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region selection. In 2004, O'Rourke was a first team NSCAA/adidas All-American and first team College Soccer News All-American. He was also named as one of 11 players to be honored on Soccer America's MVP team.
His excellence also extended over to the classroom during his time at Indiana. O'Rourke was named the NSCAA/adidas Scholar Athlete of the Year for his performance in the classroom and on the field. He was a first team NSCAA Scholar All-American and a third team ESPN Academic All-American. He was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree while majoring in biochemistry. O'Rourke was also tabbed a first team CoSIDA Academic All-District V selection each of the last two seasons.
On Jan. 14, O'Rourke was selected fourth overall in the 2005 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by the San Jose Earthquakes. The Earthquakes showed the Columbus, Ohio, native as a priority, trading up two selections to draft him. San Jose traded midfielders Richard Mulrooney and Arturo Alvarez along with the sixth and 29th overall picks to FC Dallas in exchange for midfielder Brad Davis, an allocation and the fourth overall pick.
The "Faces In The Crowd" section highlights four to six people every week who have a great athletic achievement to share. The people featured range from kids to college athletes to senior citizens who have all accomplished an athletic feat. He is the second Indiana University athlete to be honored in the "Faces In The Crowd," this year. In November 2004, women's soccer senior Kim Grodek was featured in Sports Illustrated 50th Anniversary edition.
