BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior guard Bracey Wright scored a game-high 30 points as Indiana won its first Big Ten game of the season, 74-61, over Wisconsin on Saturday night in Assembly Hall.The Hoosiers captured their seventh-straight Big Ten home opener to improve to 6-7 overall and 1-1 in league play, while the Badgers fall to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in the Big Ten.
Freshman forward D.J. White and freshman forward Robert Vaden scored double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively. White corralled a team-high seven rebounds in the winning effort.
Wisconsin scored the first point of the game, but Indiana went on a 13-2 run to take a 10-point lead at the 15:18 mark. Wright scored four points during the spurt.
The Badgers cut the margin in half, 15-10, after a pair of three-pointers, the second by sophomore forward Alando Tucker.
IU pushed its lead back to eight, 18-10, courtesy of a Wright triple. The Hoosiers edge moved to nine, 25-16, on a trey from freshman guard A.J. Ratliff with just over five minutes to play in the frame.
The Hoosiers took their second double-digit lead of the half, 28-16, on a three-point play from Wright at 2:57. Wright led all first-half scorers with 14 points.
Indiana took a 34-20 advantage into the locker room. The Hoosiers shot 13-of-26 (50%) from the floor and 4-of-7 (57.1%) from beyond the arc in the stanza.
Wright opened the second half with a jumper to make the score 36-20. IU led by 16 points on four separate occasions during the first eight minutes of the half.
The Badgers cut the lead to 53-43 on a three-point play from Tucker, but a free throw each by White and Wright and a rebound putback from White made the margin 57-43 at 6:40.
The Hoosiers advantage remained at 11 points or greater for the final six minutes of the game.
Wright and White combined to score 26 of the Hoosiers' 40 points in the half.
Tucker scored a team-high 22 points for the Badgers, while sophomore forward Kammron Taylor had 21 and senior forward Mike Wilkinson totaled 10. Wilkens grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Indiana will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 15, at Noon (EST), against Purdue at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette. The game will be televised nationally live on ESPN.
