No. 7 Indiana Hosts Cardinals in Mid-Week Battle

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After another record-breaking weekend, the Hoosiers are set to take on the Louisville Cardinals in their first mid-week matchup of the year. The Cardinals, who are currently ranked No. 13 in the NFHCA poll, travel to Bloomington to take on Indiana at 4 p.m. on Tuesday in Mellencamp Pavilion. Indiana is unbeaten at home and looks to increase its longest winning streak in program history to nine games.
Louisville is 10-4 overall, 2-1 in the Big East Conference and 2-2 on the road thus far in 2005. The Cardinals dropped a 5-2 match to the defending national champion Wake Forest Demon Deacons their last time out. U of L is led by Jessica Javelet who has netted 19 goals and recorded 11 assists in 2005. Janelle Avila is the second leading scorer on the team with 13 goals and five assists. The Cardinals and the Hoosiers share three opponents this season in Missouri State, Pacific and Appalachian State. Both Louisville and IU have beaten all three.
The Hoosiers and Cardinals have met four times with Louisville holding a 3-1 advantage in the series. IU has never beaten Louisville at home. The Hoosiers' only win came in overtime last season in Louisville. The last time the two teams met was on Sept. 17, 2004. With the score knotted at 1-1, IU's Jodi Murphy scored in the 80th minute of the game to give the Hoosiers their first win over the Cardinals.
Indiana improved its record to 11-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the Big Ten after Saturday's 3-1 win over Northwestern in Mellencamp Pavilion. Led by senior Kayla Bashore's two goals, the Hoosiers increased their win streak to eight games and defeated the Wildcats for the first time in program history. Also scoring for the Hoosiers was sophomore Kate O'Connell.
