BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - As the Indiana volleyball team prepares for this weekend's Big Ten matches against Wisconsin and Northwestern, freshman setter Laura Holm and senior middle blocker Mandy Eberle sat down with IUHOOSIERS.com after practice.
Freshman setter Laura Holm
On winning this week's IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week award:
"It is really cool. It is nice to get a nod for some hard work. Our coaches make sure that we go to study table, so they are a big part of it. Everyone around us wants us to succeed. It is good to know that we have great support. I try my best, and I don't want to give anything less than I can."
On playing close to home (St. Charles, Ill.) when competing against Northwestern:
"I am not going home, but I will be familiar with the area. Also, my old high school team is going to be there. I am really excited for that. They are also doing really well. It is great to have them out to support us. It will be an extra boost for me to know that they are there. I also get to see my best friend this weekend."
Senior middle blocker Mandy Eberle
On playing in front of friends and family in her final trip to Wisconsin as a Sussex, Wis., native:
"I am really excited. My home is pretty close to both Wisconsin and Northwestern. I think a lot of people will be there. It is kind of sad. It is the last time my friends and family get to see our team play. It reminds me that my career is winding down and coming to an end, but I want to make the most of the last couple of months. It will be exciting."
On how Indiana is going to respond after its recent struggles:
"This weekend was rough for us, and it didn't turn out the way we wanted. So far, this week has been one of the best practice weeks we have had. I think everyone knows we have the potential to be a really great team. We just have to put it together this weekend. We have to start this weekend."
