BLOOMINGTON, Ind - The Indiana men's basketball team practiced in front of media for the first time this season on Tuesday, October 18. Below are quotes from after practice.
Freshman Ben Allen
On the biggest adjustment from Australia to the United States:
BA: Off the court, probably the food. I need to make sure I am eating enough to put on some weight with all of the running we are doing. I have to stay away from fast food and junk food and eat right. On the court it is how physical the game is. I am enjoying being in town and wouldn't want to be any place else.
On his expectations for the year:
BA: I want to do whatever I can to contribute to the team this year. Go in and help out Marco (Killingsworth) and DJ (White). I am not looking to play a lot, I just want to go in and help out as much as I can.
On the difference between basketball in Indiana and Australia:
BA: It is a lot more physical here. The up tempo game is pretty similar, but here people are always up in your face going after the ball.
Sophomore Errek Suhr
On how practice is going early in the season:
ES: It's going well. We are working on getting everybody in the game plan and we are getting better as we go. It's still early but all the new guys are adjusting but it is all going well so far.
On finally getting the season started:
ES: It's always good to get practice started. It seems like all preseason you are waiting for practice to start, now you are waiting for the games to start. It's never ending.
Senior Marshall Strickland
On being a team leader this season:
MS: I know the signs of a team headed in the wrong direction and I am willing to do whatever it takes to keep us from going that way. Even if it takes getting more vocal with everyone I want to keep us on the right path.
On looking to be more aggressive offensively:
MS: Since I won't be bringing up the ball all the time setting the offense I can look for my shot more often. We have some good point guards so I will have a little different mindset offensively this year.
Head coach Mike Davis
On the team toughness this season:
MD: I think we are a very tough team this year. Marco (Killingsworth) has helped a lot with the team attitude. I want to make sure guys are tough and able to bounce back and play hard no matter what happens in a game.
On Marco smiling all the time:
MD: I like it. When he is smiling it means he has done something well. If he is frowning, that means he has done something wrong. I would rather see him smile.
