Plotkin Named to Soccer America National Team of the Week

b>BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior midfielder Brian Plotkin was named to the Soccer America National Team of the Week for the second time this season. The reigning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week registered five points on two goals and an assist against Wisconsin and Northwestern, Oct. 14 and Oct. 16.
The Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy candidate scored on a 30-yard bomb to give the Hoosiers a 2-1 lead in the first half against Wisconsin. The goal was reminiscent of his game-winner in IU's season opening victory over then-No. 10 Wake Forest. Plotkin later notched an assist on the Hoosiers' final goal of the evening. He sent a long ball to senior midfielder Jordan Chirico, who chested the ball down and scored to the far post. The assist was the 30th of Plotkin's IU career, moving him into sole possession of 13th place on the school's career assists list.
With the Hoosiers trailing 1-0 in the first half against Northwestern, Plotkin scored from the right side of the 18-yard box to even it in the 30th minute. The match would remain tied after 110 minutes of action. The goal was Plotkin's sixth on the season. It also moved him into a tie for 24th on the Indiana's career points list. He now has 68 career points.
The Lisle, Ill., native earned the honor following IU victories over then-No. 10 Wake Forest and then-No. 7 SMU to start the season. It also is the fourth time this season a Hoosier has been named to the Soccer America National Team of the Week. Sophomore back Greg Stevning nabbed the honor along with Plotkin following the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic. On Oct. 12, junior midfielder Josh Tudela earned the distinction after scored three of IU's four goals in 2-0 wins at Louisville and Michigan.
After a four-match road trip, the Hoosiers return to the friendly confines of Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium. Indiana will host in-state foe Butler on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. IU will wrap up the conference slate with a home affair against Ohio State on Sunday, Oct. 23. The game will be part of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader with the men's match starting at 2:30 p.m.
