Get To Know Meredith Brown

Sophomore midfielder Meredith Brown and the Hoosiers continue their breakout year and their quest to be the first Hoosier team since the program was reinstated in 2000 to make the NCAA tournament. The Elkton, Ma., native has started all 13 games for Indiana. For the year, Brown has notched eight points off a team-high eight assists. Brown is three assists away from becoming the career leader in helpers for the Hoosiers. In September, the journalism major's poetry was published in the opening pages of the newest installment of Chicken Soup for the Girl's Soul.

Favorite thing about IU field hockey:
The team chemistry and how much we have improved as a team.
How I begin playing field hockey:
I began playing field hockey in grade school. My older sister played and I became interested.
Person I admire most:
My father.
Favorite athlete:
Derek Jeter for his classy play and good sportsmanship.
Favorite class at IU:
Creative writing. I enjoy writing and expressing my thoughts through writing.
Favorite IU sports team other than field hockey:
Men's basketball.
Favorite movie:
The Notebook.
Hardest class ever taken:
Finite math.
Favorite play on IU's campus:
Kirkwood
Favorite sports to play:
I love softball and track, especially the hurdles.
Best friends on the team:
Haley Exner, Kate O'Connell and Amanda Oyler
Place I would most like to travel to:
Australia or Ireland
Person I would most like to meet:
Jessica Simpson
Pregame rituals:
Listening to music, visualizing what I want to happen and how I want to play.
Best piece of advice:
Be yourself and follow your heart.
What do you want to do after you graduate:
I want to start my own technical writing business or write for a major magazine.
How do you balance playing a varsity sport and class work:
Prioritize and time management.
What has been the highlight of your field hockey career:
Standing on Cal Berkeley's field listening to the National Anthem at my first collegiate game.
Who do you admire most on the team:
Kayla Bashore and Ryan Woolsey.
