Hoosiers Take Fourth at Big Ten Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - In the final tune-up before the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals on Nov. 12, the Indiana women's cross country team hit its stride on Oct. 30 and took fourth place with 128 points at the Big Ten Championships. Michigan claimed the team title with 42 points, while Illinois junior Cassie Hunt earned the individual crown with a 21:00.54 clocking.
IU traveled to the Les Bolsted Golf Course in Minneapolis, Minn., for the second time this season, bringing home better results this time around. Led by junior All-American Jessica Gall, who recorded a dazzling time of 21:30.14, the Hoosiers improved upon their 15th-place effort posted at the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 24 at the same facility. Meanwhile, junior Lindsay Hattendorf (21:30.89) finished less than a second behind to place 10th overall.
"Our award for outstanding runner for today goes out to Lindsay Hattendorf," head coach Judy Wilson said. "She really ran a great race today. I think our three-through-five runners can improve some before Regionals and that should put us in good shape to reach our goal of finishing in the top three."
Freshman Wendi Robinson (29th - 22:17), junior Kristin Whitezell (37th - 22:35), senior Kelly Siefker (43rd - 22:45), freshman Ashley Sommer (68th - 23:56) and sophomore Maura Ratcliff (71st - 24:04) also competed for the Hoosiers.
Indiana has two weeks to rest and prepare for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, which will be held in Bloomington, Ind., on Saturday, Nov. 12.
