BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week Award. For the week ending Oct. 2, men's swimmers Ryan McNeill and Matt Jensen earned the honor as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
"I am very proud of both student-athletes," Indiana head swimming coach Ray Looze said. "Ryan McNeill is one of the hardest workers on the team, especially in the classroom. The honor for him is certainly appropriate. Matt Jensen is one of the most intelligent swimmers we have on our team. He is also very deserving of this honor."
McNeill and Jensen are both in the midst of the I-Core in the Kelley Business School. The I-Core is the most difficult combination of classes at IU, and taking the set of courses is typically the hardest semester for any IU student.
"Both Matt and Ryan have worked extremely hard to get into the Kelley Business School and to get through all the classes leading into I-Core," academic advisor Jenn Townsend said. "They are also both dedicating themselves to doing well in I-Core, and are consistently studying and working hard. They are also great examples of teammates who work together not only in the water, but also in the classroom."
