Softball Closes Fall at Triangle Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's softball team concluded its fall schedule at the IU Fall Triangle Classic Sunday, Oct. 2, with a 1-1 record at the IU Softball Field in Bloomington, Ind. The Hoosiers swung at will against Butler, 9-1, but fell short against Louisville, 4-3.
Due to weather, the Hoosiers had to forgo the rest of the Indiana State tournament last Sunday, Sept. 25, leading its contest against Eastern Illinois, 4-0, before the tournament was called.
Indiana picked up right where it left off as junior Rachel Terry led the onslaught against Butler with a two-run homer in the first. Senior Lauren Hines took to the plate to garner an RBI single, while junior Tory Yamaguchi posted a 2-3 performance at the plate. The Hoosiers reaped the benefits of an early offensive push against the Bulldogs, as Butler's wheels fell off allowing six more runs to cross the plate. Indiana's defensive hold held true as well, as senior Megan Roark pitched four strikeouts over six innings.
Against Louisville, the Hoosiers played down a run until Hines plated an RBI single in the Hoosiers half of the first. IU played down two runs for most of the game, but remained poised and confident through the next five innings of action until a Hoosier jersey was ready to step in and take control. That jersey bore the No. 25, as junior Kim Richards clocked a two-run homer in the sixth to tie the affair. The score held until the seventh, when Louisville plated another run to take the game after Indiana left a man on base in their bottom of the seventh. Senior Mariangee Bogado fanned 10 batters in her 6 1/2 innings, before freshman Aubrey Hayes took the helm to dismiss one in the final inning.
The Hoosiers have concluded their fall schedule and begin their 2006 season with a trip to Oklahoma City, Okla., for the University of Oklahoma Tournament Feb.17-19.
