BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Over the 2005-06 campaign, IUHOOSIERS.com will catch up with former Indiana swimmers and divers to see where life has taken them after graduating from IU. Duke Shin, who swam for IU from 1994-98, took the time to fill in IUHOOSIERS.com on his life since graduation.
What have you been doing since graduating from Indiana University?
I am currently working in Chicago as a Post Production Coordinator, setting up services for clients working in everything from major motion pictures to advertising spots to independant and student projects. I'm also a freelance writer for BPM Magazine and www.cultivatelife.org and hold down a weekly residency as a D.J. in Wicker Park.
What did you enjoy the most about your time as a Hoosier?
Meeting people I would've never otherwise met. Getting my first taste working in TV/Radio and digital video production through the Telecommunications Department. Being part of a swimming program with such a storied past.
What piece of advice would you give to any current Hoosier?
Is Jiffy Treat still in business? Do they still deliver? Beware the Jiffy Treat!
Would you say that being a student-athlete at Indiana University has helped you get to where you are today?
Being a student-athlete has helped give me the confidence to go out and try new things. Being a student-athlete has also been invaluable in organizing my life between various jobs, interests and pursuits--it teaches you how to make the most of your time.
Anything additional you would like to add?
Being a student and being an athlete are two great but finite things. Make the most out of both opportunities, but don't forget to have some fun along the way!
