BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's basketball team held an open practice and team scrimmage on Tuesday, Nov. 1. Below are quotes following practice.
Guard Roderick Wilmont
On playing against the White Team in practice:
RW: "We are under-matched to begin with, playing against D.J. (White) and Marco (Killingsworth). They got us yesterday, and last night, I sat up for about six hours watching the last scrimmage finding out how we were going to guard them. I told the guys today we just need to make them take tough shots and double team them when they get the ball."
On his job in practice:
RW: "It's my job to play hard and make those guys better every day. There always has to be another team to play against and you can't have bad players on the other team. We just have to go out there and make them become a better team."
Guard Earl Calloway
On his adjustment to Indiana from junior college:
EC: "I am just getting adjusted and learning the new plays, new system and what Coach Davis and the coaching staff want. I'm excited for the first game and the chance to be on the court."
On the difference between junior college basketball and Indiana practice:
EC: "It's a little quicker, a lot of technical stuff. A lot of things you can get away with in junior college you can't get away with here because the players are a lot better and more athletic."
Forward DJ White
On the scrimmage today:
DW: "It was a nice change. We got up and down and had guys out there calling fouls. It has taken us a little while to get adjusted to the newer style of play, getting up and down the court. It was like a real game. I haven't played in a real game in a few months."
On preparing for exhibition games:
DW: "It is a chance for us to get up and down. We are going to go out there and play hard so we can get ready for the start of the regular season."
Head coach Mike Davis:
On the scrimmage today:
MD: "I thought the Red Team did a great job today. They had some great ball movement and didn't hold the basketball for a long time. They played hard defensively and made the White Team take a lot of contested shots. With about eight minutes left in the game, I thought the White Team started to press a little bit."
On team's rediness for the season:
MD: "This team is ready to play. They are ready to play a different team. The White Team looked really good Saturday and the Red Team looked good today. Ben (Allen) looks good, Earl (Calloway) looks good and Rod (Wilmont) played well today. We just need to keep playing and getting better day-by-day."
On the things the coaching staff is looking for:
MD: "We are looking for carry over. From one day to the next we want to see that guys are making the extra pass. If there is nothing there, passing the ball back out and getting a better shot. We also want to see them playing together as a team."
