Head Coach Mike Davis
Opening Statement:
MD: "I thought that in the first half we played the way that we wanted to play. We pushed the ball up the court and tried to get the ball inside. Marko [Killingsworth] played really well for us tonight. I thought that we played hard; the guys that came in during the second half played very hard for us. Earl Calloway had 10 assists and no turnovers for us, which is very good."
On the loss of D.J. White:
MD: "We are definitely going to miss him, because he is one of the best players in the country. But we have guys that are going to step up. I thought that Sean Kline played well for the first game in which he had his named called (as a starter). He was a little nervous tonight, but he played well, and by [Nicholls State] he should be ready to go."
On what was accomplished during the two exhibition games:
MD: "I think that we [accomplished a lot]. The last two games we went inside, and that is something that we haven't done in the past. We took 27 threes tonight, but the majority of them were wide open. That is what you want to do, shoot open shots and get the ball inside. Everything counts next weekend, so we will see next Friday night if we come out and play the same way, getting the ball inside to Marco and Kline."
On the play of senior guard Marshall Strickland:
MD: "Marshall was very good tonight. We want Marshall to hit outside shots. I thought that he turned down a couple of open looks at the beginning of the game, but if Marshall is open, he can hit his shots. Coach [Donnie] Marsh talked to Marshall about leading the country in three point shots and with the team that we have, he should get a lot of open looks."
On the team's defense:
MD: "Our defense was good tonight, but we still need to get better in transition, block out and rebound the basketball better. You can gage your defense on the shots [the opponent takes], are they open or contested, and at the end of the first half, they had missed all of their contested shots."
