BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Sophomore Linda Calvert will take on the center position during the 2006 season for the Hoosiers. The Temple City, Calif., native scored 14 goals to go along with 15 assists and 21 steals during her freshman season.
Junior transfer Melissa Soria will also handle a lot of minutes at the center position. Soria was a two-time All-American at Long Beach Community College. She led her team to back-to-back SoCal Regional and California Community College State Championships.
Calvert and Soria will handle the center position most of the time, but the Hoosiers will also make some offensive adjustments in which they will not have to rely on a primary center as much as they have in years past.
This season, King will look to change the structure of the offense.
"We'll look for a lot of movement in more of an attacker oriented offense," Indiana head coach Barry King said. "We have previously run more a center oriented offense, which is something that we will look to change this season."
Junior Claire Nicholson adds depth and experience to the center position. In her first two seasons as Hoosier, Nicholson has scored 21 goals, including her first career hat trick a season ago against Penn State-Behrend (March 6, 2005).
"Claire adds depth to the center position," King said. "Her ability to pass out of the center will be valuable when working with our attackers."
