Here is a look at some interesting facts about Indiana's season opener against the defending national champion No. 5/6 Baylor on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. at Branch McCracken Court at Assembly Hall.
Did you know...
• This marks the second-straight year head coach Sharon Versyp has opened the season against a top-10 team. In her final season at the University of Maine, Versyp and the Black Bears played then-No. 3 LSU in Baton Rouge.
• Indiana has compiled a 24-10 record in season-openers, including a 15-4 mark in home season-openers.
• For the first time in school history IU will open the season with consecutive games against ranked teams, as it prepares for No. 15/16 Notre Dame on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m.
• Saturday's game will be just the second time in school history the Hoosiers will play a defending national champion from the previous year. The last time this happened was in 2000, when IU took on the 1999 champion, Purdue.
• IU is one of three schools in the nation (Oklahoma and LSU are the others) to play both the 2005 NCAA champion Baylor and runner up, Michigan State during the 2005-06 regular season.
