Softball Inks Three to National Letters of Intent

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana softball team announced the signing of three incoming freshmen to National Letters of Intent for the 2006-07 recruiting class, announced head coach Stacey Phillips. The class marks the second recruiting class for Phiilips, who served as interim head coach in 2005 and takes over the reigns of the Hoosiers officially this season.
Stephanie Turner (Pendleton, Ind./ Pendleton Heights), Jennifer Glueckert (South Bend, Ind./ John Adams) and Brenda Langston (Escondido, Calif./ Escondido) make up the talented 2006-07 recruiting class for IU.
Turner, who plays first base for Pendleton Heights, will join the Hoosiers next year after an already accomplished high school career to date. The Pendleton, Ind., native helped lead her team to a conference and county championship in both 2003 and 2005. Her Pendleton Heights High School squad also made it to the final four in 2003 and was a state runner-up in 2005. While at Pendleton Heights, Turner has been the recipient of the Coaches Award (2003), Madison County Player of the Year (2004), All-State (3rd team 2004, 1st team 2005), All-Conference (2004-05), first All-Indy Metro super team (2005) and All-North team (2005).
"We are thrilled to have landed such a talented hitter to help boost the Hoosier offensive output," Phillips said. "Stephanie has great power and continues to improve every time I see her play. Stephanie is very coachable and will add great depth to our offensive and defensive game at first base."
Glueckert comes to Indiana after a stellar career at John Adams High School where she she is a three-sport athlete playing softball, volleyball and basketball. As a junior, Glueckert helped lead her softball squad to a sectional championship, while being named to the second team All-State, first team All-Conference, team Most Valuable Player and serving as team captain. As a sophomore, Glueckert earned All-State honorable mention and All-Conference second team, while also garnering All-Conference first team as a freshman. Entering her senior campaign, Glueckert is on the brink of breaking the Indiana State record in triples.
"Jennifer is such a great athlete," Phillips said. "Adding Jennifer to the program continues our trend of increasing the athleticism to this team. We look for Glueckert to contribute immediately not only in the outfield, but with her bat and speed on the base paths as well."
Langston, an Escondido, Calif., native wraps up the Hoosier 2006-07 signing class. Langston is a two-sport athlete at Escondido High School where she also plays varsity tennis. Langston's most recent accomplishments include being named the 2005 varsity softball Defensive Player of the Year, first team All-Valley League, Valley League Player of the Year, North County first team infield, first team All-CIF and led her squad in RBI. Langston enters her senior campaign on the mound for her high school squad and looks to continue her streak of garnering first team All-Valley League honors since first earning the honor as a sophomore.
"Brenda will come in and have an opportunity to contribute immediately on the mound for our Hoosier program," Phillips said. "She will have the opportunity to strengthen her pitching by working with Coach Tarrah Beyster. Brenda will come into our program with high goals for her game and contributions, and without a doubt will work hard to meet those goals."
