Head Coach Sharon Versyp
Opening statement:
SV: "I thought this was a great test for us. The first half we did exceptionally well. Our post players did what we asked of them. They rebounded well and played great defense. When they went to a zone we stood around a little and our goal was to hold them to 70 points who no one has yet this season. We basically did that but when you are down by 10 with a minute left to go you still got a chance to tie the game. I am very pleased with the opportunity.
On the second half:
SV: "I knew they would come out in the 2nd half and be very strong. They are known for being a second half team and they showed it. You saw that against Georgia and UCLA but our defense did not allow them to score many points. We had wide-open shots and we just missed them. The shots would have gave us energy which we could have used. We had our best shooters shooting and we did not make them. They played a zone which made us changed our game somewhat."
On their foul trouble:
SV: "Whitney was the only one in foul trouble and she brings quite a bit to us. She brings rebounding and really understood the game as a freshman. Brigett did a great job coming in and playing some minutes for her. We did not do a great job of boxing out and if you see their second chance points 17-5 you can see why."
On their playing strategy:
SV: "We were not cutting hard we were not flashing hard. We tired five different things and we didn't hit our shots. They forced us to hit the three and we were wide open and just didn't make our shots. If we hit them it would have been a little different. I would have also sat back in a zone if we were leading."
On the positives:
SV: " We competed and were intense for 40 minutes. I called a timeout and got in kids faces when they thought all was lost. I do not like it. Change your look to handle adversity when things get down. We battled back, knocked down a three and we were able to pull it back. Just being able to score 62 points for us against this team, I thought was very good for us. To hold this team defensively to about 70 points again. For us to win we have to score more then 60 and hold teams to about 60 points."
On their post players:
SV: "I think the players that played did a great job. As our guards said our post players doubled teamed and played great defensive. Sarah hasn't shown that quite yet and also she needs to work on forcing the outside shot. Our post play stepped upped and answered the call."
