The Indiana football and women's basketball teams took time from their busy schedules to take part in Oct. 31 Halloween activities in Bloomington. Student-athletes from both teams passed out candy to children at College Mall in Bloomington, and several football players and assistant coaches visited area neighborhoods to help area children have a safe trick or treating experience.
Head football coach Terry Hoeppner said it was rewarding for both players and coaches.
"We went out trick or treating Monday night, as we had talked about doing. Some things are exactly like you plan, and that was," Hoeppner said. "We had big guys with jerseys carrying flashlights. People noticed them. `Wow. You are (senior captain and offensive guard) Adam Hines!' It was a success. Our guys had a lot of fun doing it, plus it gives our coaches the chance to go trick-or-treating with their kids. It was a good night."
Head women's basketball coach Sharon Versyp agreed with Hoeppner and said the women's basketball team had a good time entertaining the trick or treaters.
"We really enjoy getting out in the community and participating in activities like this," Versyp said. "Our student-athletes had a lot of fun handing out candy to the kids on Monday. To us, it is important to get out and interact with everyone in the community. This is just the beginning of what we plan on doing throughout the year to reach out to people in Bloomington."
