Bashore, Schrott Earn All-America Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Two Indiana field hockey players earned All-America honors as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) on Tuesday. Senior midfielder Kayla Bashore became the first Hoosier to be named a first team All-American, while junior forward Lydia Schrott was selected second team All-America.
The Hoosier pair led IU to the their winningest season in program history with an overall record of 17-5 and an Elite Eight finish in the NCAA Tournament. Both All-Americans combined for 29 of Indiana's 63 goals this season. Additionally, both were named first team All-Big Ten and first team All-Region.
Bashore, who tallied 29 points off 12 goals and five assists, collected the program's first Big Ten Player of the Year honor and was a 2003 second team All-America selection. The Shoemakersville, Pa., product posted two hat tricks this season against Pacific (Sept. 9) and Lindenwood (Sept. 25). Along with fellow senior Mallory Reabold, Bashore was a North/South Senior All-Star selection and is the first Hoosier to be named to the U.S. Field Hockey National team. Bashore is the Hoosiers' career shots (184) and defensive saves (7) leader.
Schrott, who sits as Indiana's all-time career goals leader with 29, led the Hoosiers to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament with her second career hat trick against No. 5 North Carolina. The Quarryville, Pa., standout led the Indiana scoring offense this season with 17 goals and 37 points. Schrott earned the Big Ten's first Offensive Player of the Week honors for her hat-trick performance against nationally-ranked Northeastern on Aug. 28.
