Becker Nabs IU Athlete of the Week Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize the top performances in Hoosier Athletics by selecting an IU Athlete of the Week. For the week ending Nov. 27, sophomore wrestler Brandon Becker garnered the distinction.
"It was good to have Brandon back in the lineup for the first time this year," head coach Duane Goldman said. "He wrestled well and seems prepared to make another run at All-American status and hopefully a national title this season."
The fifth-ranked Becker earned the honor after defeating 19th-ranked Seth Martin (Lock Haven) to claim to the 157-pound crown at the Mat Town Invitational on Nov. 26. The Hoosiers finished first at the team event, claiming the victory in commanding fashion with a 40-point margin over second-place Buffalo and Oregon.
A 2005 All-American, Becker registered one major decision (13-0 MD over Nick Pullano, Old Dominion) in the semifinal bout to advance and face Martin in the championship match. The Mickleton, N.J., native went 3-0 en route to the title, taking the decision over Martin 4-2 to claim his first tournament crown of his career. Becker allowed only three points by his opponents at the Mat Town Invitational while posting 25 of his own through three matches.
Becker earned the IU Athlete of the Week honor from a list of deserving nominees. The list included guard/forward Robert Vaden (men's basketball) and senior guard Jenny DeMuth (women's basketball).
Hoosier Honor Roll
Sophomore guard/forward Robert Vaden (Men's Basketball):
Sophomore Robert Vaden led Indiana to two victories during the week, averaging 17.5 points, 6.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game. Against Florida A&M on Nov. 21, Vaden had 13 points and five assists in the Hoosiers' 100-63 win. On Nov. 26 against Western Illinois, Vaden accounted for career highs in points (21), assists (8) and steals (5) in the 102-79 win.
Senior guard Jenny DeMuth (Women's Basketball):
Senior Jenny DeMuth reached double figure scoring in each of the Hoosiers' three contests during the past week. DeMuth scored 20 against Notre Dame, 12 against Youngstown State and 18 against Bowling Green. For the week, DeMuth averaged 16.6 ppg and 7.6 rpg. The Highland, Ind., product also registered a double-double against the Fighting Irish as she pulled down 11 rebounds to go along with her 20 points.
