Russell Qualifies for Commonwealth Games

VICTORIA, B.C. - Junior Colin Russell earned a spot on Canada's Commonwealth Games squad during the nation's trials held Nov. 23-26 at Saanich Commonwealth Place in Victoria, B.C. During the meet, Russell continued to tack on top-10 times in school history in the long course meter freestyle events.
In the opening race of the weekend, Russell earned a spot on Canada's 400 LCM freestyle relay with a fourth-place finish in the 100 LCM freestyle event. Russell opened prelims with a 50.87, which stood as the fifth-fastest 100 LCM free time in school history, until he blasted to a 50.46 in finals for the third-best time in the event in program annals.
The following day, Russell captured third place in the 400 LCM freestyle with a 3:53.61. That effort now stands eighth in the IU record chart in the event.
Russell then closed out the weekend with a fourth-place performance in the 200 LCM freestyle event with a 1:49.97. Once again, Russell clinched a top-five effort for IU as the clocking now resides fifth in school history.
