Hoosiers Set for Golden Gophers on Saturday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Returning to Memorial Stadium for its fifth home game of the season, the Indiana football team welcomes the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday, Nov. 5 at noon EST. The Hoosiers enter the contest with a 4-4 overall mark and a 1-4 Big Ten record, while the Gophers sit at 5-3 and 2-3 in the league.
The game will be televised on ESPN2 (Pam Ward, David Norrie and Jimmy Dykes) and can be heard on the statewide IU Radio Network (Don Fischer, Pete Compise and Joe Smith).
The Minnesota Series
Minnesota owns a 34-24-3 lead in the all-time series, but Indiana has won seven straight contests against the Golden Gophers in Bloomington, including a 30-21 victory over the then-No. 23 Gophers on Homecoming last season (10/30). The last Minnesota victory at Memorial Stadium came on Oct. 19, 1985, a 22-7 triumph over the Hoosiers.
Scouting The Gophers
Minnesota brings a 5-3 overall record and 2-3 Big Ten mark to Bloomington. Minnesota suffered a 45-31 loss to No. 12 Ohio State on Oct. 29. Running back Laurence Maroney is one of the premier backs in the country as he has rushed for 1,260 yards, 157.5 yards per game and nine touchdowns this season.
Junior quarterback Bryan Cupito directs a balanced Gopher offense as Cupito has completed nearly 59 percent of his passes for 1,604 yards and 11 touchdowns. Six different Minnesota players have at least 13 receptions, led by Logan Payne's 23 catches for 350 yards. Defensively, John Pawielski is the team leader with 58 tackles.
