Hoosiers Ranked 23rd in Associated Press Preseason Poll

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's basketball team is ranked 23rd in the Associated Press Preseason Poll, released on Monday, Nov. 7. The Hoosiers are ranked among the top 25 in both major preseason polls. IU is ranked 22nd in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches, which was released last week.
The Hoosiers will once again play one of the most difficult schedules in the country. Six of Indiana's 2005-06 opponents are ranked in the AP's preseason poll, including four in the top 10. Indiana will host preseason No. 1 Duke on Nov. 30 in Assembly Hall as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Hoosiers also have matchups against No. 3 Connecticut (Feb. 4), No. 4 Michigan State (Jan. 11 and Feb. 27), No. 9 Kentucky (Dec. 10), No. 17 Illinois (Jan. 17 and Feb. 19) and No. 20 Iowa (Jan. 24 and Feb. 11).
Indiana opened the exhibition slate with a convincing 93-65 victory over Division II Saint Joseph's (Ind.) on Nov. 4. Senior forward Marco Killingsworth and sophomore forward Robert Vaden paced IU with 17 points apiece as 11 different Hoosiers found the scoring column in the victory.
The exhibition portion of the Hoosiers' schedule continues on Thursday, Nov. 10, against Indianapolis. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Branch McCracken Court in Assembly Hall. Indiana opens the regular season at home against Nicholls State on Nov. 18. The affair will be televised at 6 p.m. on ESPN-Plus. Every Hoosier tilt can be heard on the IU Radio Network with Don Fischer (play-by-play), Todd Leary (analysis) and Joe Smith (pregame, halftime, post game) on the call.
