BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Following a sixth place finish at Big Tens, the Hoosiers stay in Bloomington for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet on Saturday, Nov. 12. The Hoosier will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships (Terre Haute, Ind., Nov. 21) for the fourth consecutive year, and the fifth time in six years.
In the past five seasons, IU has finished in the top five at Regionals four times, and qualified for the Championships those four years. The Hoosiers best finish at Regionals is first place, which happened most recently in 1979 under then-head coach Sam Bell.
TWO HOOSIERS EARN ALL-BIG TEN HONORS
With a fifth place finish senior All-American Sean Jefferson earned All-Big Ten first-team honors, marking the third time his has been named All-Big Ten. Senior Stephen Haas also earned All-Big Ten honors, taking home second-team honors with an 11th place finish.
INDIANA TAKES SIXTH AT BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Led once again by another strong performance by senior All-American Sean Jefferson, IU took sixth place at the Big Ten Championships on Oct. 30 in Minneapolis, Minn. Overall, IU recorded 137 points, while Wisconsin claimed its seventh consecutive team title with a Big Ten Championships record 16 points.
Jefferson finished fifth overall in 24:13. That effort broke up a top-eight sweep by Wisconsin as the Badgers boasted seven of the first eight finishers.
EXPERIENCED ROSTER
The Hoosiers return six seniors from last season, including William Coale, Steven Haas, John Jefferson, two-time All-American Sean Jefferson, Charlie Koeppen and Eric Redman.
STRENGTH IN NUMBERS
Along with the six returning seniors, there are eight redshirt freshmen making up a large part of the 22 man roster for the 2005 season.
BACK HOME AGAIN IN INDIANA
The Hoosiers had a travel-friendly schedule this season, leaving the state only twice. The team will traveled to Minneapolis, Minn. for the Big Ten Championships, and hav been to Chicago for the Loyola Lakefront Invitational. The final two races of the season, the NCAA Great Lakes Regional (Bloomington, Ind.) and the NCAA Championships (Terre Haute, Ind.) will both be ran in the Hoosier state.
HOMEGROWN TALENT
This year's squad is loaded with talent from across Indiana with twleve runners hailing from the Hoosier state.
