BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the first time in program history, the Indiana field hockey team earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Hoosiers will face the University of North Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 12 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Along with UNC and Indiana, the defending national champion and host Wake Forest along with California are in IU's bracket.
"Being the first time we have received a bid to the NCAAs, it's definitely a thrill for us," Indiana head coach Amy Robertson said. "Our juices are flowing right now, and we are ready to play. I'm excited that we have the opportunity to play at a great facility, and we are eager to play some really great teams. This team plays better the bigger the challenge. I think our bracket is the most challenging, but you can count on all the games in the tournament to be great games. We are so excited and ready for this challenge."
The Tar Heals boast a 14-6 overall record and are ranked No. 5 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll. Host Wake Forest is the No. 2 team in the country with an impressive 19-1 record. The Demon Deacons' only loss came in the ACC Championship game to Maryland. Cal is 12-7 for the season and is ranked No. 20 in the NFHCA top-20 poll.
