DeMuth Earns IU Athlete of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize the top performances in Hoosier Athletics by selecting an IU Athlete of the Week. For the week ending Dec. 11, senior forward Jenny DeMuth earned the honor. She is the first womens basketball player to be recognized for the award this season.
"Jenny has been playing exceptionally well for us," head coach Sharon Versyp said. "She is a great all-around player and does a little bit of everything for us out on the court. She works extremely hard and is one of our best leaders on the team this year."
DeMuth helped the Hoosiers pick up two wins away from home, as she nearly averaged a double-double over the week. Against Eastern Michigan on Wednesday, Dec. 7, DeMuth netted a season-high 24 points, including a 14-for-15 effort from the free throw line. In doing so, DeMuth tied her own school record for second-most free throws made in a game and the third-most free throws attempted. The Highland, Ind., native also grabbed six rebounds against the Eagles.
In IU's win over Boston University on Saturday, Dec. 10, DeMuth scored 12 points and was one rebound shy of her 14th career double-double, as she finished with nine boards to go along with three assists, two blocks and two steals.
DeMuth earned the IU Athlete of the Week honor from a list of deserving nominees. The list included senior forward Marco Killingsworth (men's basketball) and sophomore, Max Dean (wrestling.)
Hoosier Honor Roll
Senior forward Marco Killingsworth (Men's Basketball):
Marco Killingsworth led the Hoosiers to an upset win over border rival No. 15/15 Kentucky. He notched his third double-double of the year with 23 points and 11 rebounds. He also hit a season-high nine free throws to go along with four assists. The Hoosiers snapped a five-game losing streak to the Wildcats in picking up their most lopsided victory in the rival with a 79-53 win. Against Indiana State, Killingsworth also added 10 points and seven rebounds. He leads the Hoosiers in scoring at 20.1 points per game and in rebounds at an 8.7 clip.
Sophomore 165-pounder Max Dean (Wrestling):
Sophomore Max Dean helped lead the Hoosiers this weekend to a sweep of Eastern Illinois and Gardner-Webb at the Hoosier Duals. Indiana dominated both competitors, taking EIU 36-3 before toppling GW, 37-3. In the Hoosiers first dual meet of the season, 2005 NCAA Qualifier Dean looked primed to take control at 165 pounds. The West Chester, Ohio, native first dropped Andy Mangiaguerra of EIU by a major decision, 22-9. Dean followed the performance with a pin of GW's Dave Pleasing at the 5:03 mark to wrap up the day perfect on the mat. Dean now stands at 7-3 overall on the season and a 2-0 dual record mark.
