Along with head coach Tracy Smith and assistant coaches Ty Neal and Micah Nori, the Indiana baseball team also welcomes 12 new players to the 2006 roster. In the coming weeks, IUHOOSIERS.com will feature each IU newcomer. After outfielder Chris Hervey took his turn in the spotlight, outfielder Trevor McConnell is up next.
McConnell is a 5-9, 185-pound outfielder from Bloomington, Ind. A three-year starter at Bloomington South, McConnell was named the team's Most Valuable Player in 2004 and was captain of the squad his junior and senior seasons.
Prior to playing at South, McConnell attended Parkview Baptist in Baton Rouge, La., where he was a member of the state championship baseball and football teams as a freshman. The son of Bob and Barbara McConnell has one brother, Ryan. Bob served as wide receivers coach with the IU football team in 2004. McConnell plans to study sport marketing and management at IU.
