BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After leading the 2005 Indiana field hockey team to its most successful season in program history, head coach Amy Robertson garnered West Region's Coach of the Year laurels as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) on Dec. 5. Robertson, who has been at the helm of the program since its 2000 inception, earned her first regional Coach of the Year accolade.
This season, Robertson's Hoosiers finished with a 17-5 overall record, including a stunning victory over No. 5 North Carolina in the first round to send Indiana to the Elite Eight in the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance. Victories over six ranked opponents landed IU a No. 9 ranking in the final NFHCA poll. In 2005, Robertson mentored one Honda Award semifinalist, one Big Ten Player of the Year, two All-Americans, four first team All-Big Ten selections and three first team All-West Region honorees.
In six short seasons, Robertson elevated the Big Ten's newest field hockey program into a national power. While at Indiana, the 2003's Big Ten Coach of the Year compiled a record of 51-64.
