Upended at No. 9 Virginia

CHARLOTESVILLE, Va. - The No. 70 Indiana men's tennis team lost 5-2 to No. 9 Virginia on Saturday afternoon at the Boar's Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers edged out the Hoosiers for the doubles point and carried that momentum in the singles contests to claim four of them.
UVA captured the first doubles match of the day as the 19th-ranked team of juniors Rylan Rizza and Nick Meythaler downed senior Jakub Praibis and junior Dmytro Ishtuganov, 8-5, at the No. 1 position. It was the Indiana duo's first defeat of the spring.
The Hoosiers evened the doubles round at 1-1, when the team of freshmen Michael McCarthy and Dara McLoughlin won, 8-4, over junior Doug Stewart and freshman Eric Riley. The pair is now 3-0 on the spring season at the No. 3 spot.
The Cavaliers claimed the partner's point with a win at No. 2. The team of freshmen Somdev Devvarman and Treat Huey bested senior Ryan Recht and John Stone by the score of 8-4.
In singles action, No. 19 Stewart got the best No. 61 Praibis, 6-4, 6-1, at the top spot. UVA went ahead 3-0 in the match as No. 104 Huey bested McCarthy, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 4.
The Cavaliers clinched the contest when No. 22 Devvarman downed Recht, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 2 position. UVA added to its lead with a 6-4, 6-4 win from No. 63 sophomore Marko Miklo against Ishtuganov at the No. 3 spot.
Senior Tom Bagnato got the Hoosiers on the board with a 6-3, 7-6 win over freshman Jarrett Chirico at No. 5.
Sophomore David Bubenicek closed the match on a high-note for IU with a victory at the No. 6 spot, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, against junior Stephen Rozek
The Hoosiers will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 13, at N.C. State. The match is slated for 11 a.m., in the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
