Senior Spotlight: Brian Ellsworth

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head coach Ray Looze, head diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber and the Indiana University men's swimming and diving program wish to pay tribute to the crop of senior leaders that will exhaust their eligibility at the end of this season. Richard Bryant, Alex Burns, Marc Carlton, Brian Ellsworth, Murph Halasz, Niles Madison, Brian Metzler and David Winck all sacrificed their effort, energy and time to the program during their tenure in Bloomington.
In the coming weeks, we will spotlight each IU outgoing-senior individually. The third Hoosier in the series is Ellsworth.
Senior Year (2002-03)
Earned a top-three spot seven times ... top finish is second place, which last happened as the third leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay against Northwestern ... posted a personal-best time of 47.34 in the 100-yard freestyle in a defeat of Tennessee in Bloomington.
Junior Year (2002-03)
At the Indiana Invitational, swam the leadoff leg on the 12th-place 200-meter freestyle relay ... also swam a leg on the 800-meter freestyle relay that placed seventh ... individually at the Invite, placed 23rd in 400-meter freestyle, 22nd in the 200-meter freestyle and 30th in the 100-meter freestyle ... swam career-bests in the 50-yard freestyle (21.83) and the 100-yard freestyle (47.37) at the Last Chance Meet ... earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.
Sophomore Year (2002-03)
At the Big Ten Championships, placed 45th in the 200-yard freestyle, also took 56th in the 500-yard freestyle and 54th in the 100-yard freestyle ... placed 15th in both the 200 and 500 freestyles at the Indiana Invitational ... also took seventh in the 1650 freestyle and swam a leg on the fifth place 800 free relay...at the Miami Invitational, placed 28th in the 1650 free ... also swam a leg on the 12th place 800 free relay.
Freshman Year (2001-02)
As a true freshman, swam a season-best 21.32 in the 50-yard freestyle at the 2002 Big Ten Championships, which was good for a 44th-place finish...finished 57th in the 100-yard freestyle (47.58).
Prep/Personal
A team captain as a junior and senior at Fenwick ... earned first-team All-America honors in the 50-yard freestyle as a senior ... was first-team all-state as a senior and all-state honorable mention as a junior ... earned All-America honors six times as a member of multiple relay teams ... helped Fenwick to a regional championship ... was a regional champion ... swam for Dave Krodiak with the Westmont Swim Club ... a Sports Marketing and Management major, Ellsworth was born May 2, 1983.
