2/23/2005 12:00:00 AM | Men's Soccer
The Hoosiers will start the spring docket in the opening week of April. IU will take on Lindsey Wilson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 1, followed by a 2 p.m. match with Bradley on Sunday, April 3.
Lindsey Wilson College is a NAIA school in Southern Kentucky. The Blue Raiders are six-time NAIA men's soccer National Champions. In 2004, Lindsey Wilson finished 21-2-2, falling to Auburn Montgomery, 1-0, in the NAIA semifinals. IU and Lindsey Wilson tied 1-1 during the 2004 spring campaign. The Hoosiers will then play a pair of matches in Indianapolis against Butler and Dayton. In a homecoming for a trio of Hoosiers, IU will take on Butler at North Central High School at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13. Sophomores Chris Murnoe, Charley Traylor and Greg Stevning will return to play at North Central, where they led the Panthers to a state championship in 2002. IU will take on Dayton at Kuntz Field on Friday, April 15, at 8:00 p.m. The game will be part of the Urban Soccer League Fundraiser. Dayton went 11-7-1 during the 2004 season. The Flyers will be under new leadership for the 2005 campaign after five-year head coach Dave Schureck resigned to take the head coaching position at his alma mater, Xavier. Dennis Currier was named the head man in January, coming from the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas.
The Bradley Braves finished the 2004 season at 10-6-3, including a 5-2-1 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Braves season ended with a loss to No. 3 SMU in penalty kicks at the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The Hoosiers and Braves met during the spring of 2003 with IU picking up a 4-0 victory.
On Friday, April 8, the Hoosiers will take on Saint Louis as part of the Midwest Soccer Coaches Symposium at 7:30 p.m. in Bloomington. IU and Saint Louis have met each of the last two seasons with the Hoosiers picking up victories in both affairs. The Cream and Crimson defeated the Billikens in Bloomington during the 2003 campaign, 2-1, before picking up a 2-1 overtime victory in St. Louis last season.
