Leading to the Hoosiers' spring-opening event, the Central District Invitational on Feb. 21-22 in Parrish, Fla., IUHOOSIERS.COM will feature each IU newcomer from the 2005-06 recruiting class. Amber Lindgren is next up in the spotlight.
Lindgren will remain in the state of Indiana, where she was a four-time letterwinner at Western High School. In 2004, Lindgren played her way to the individual championship of the Indiana Girls State Tournament on her way to receiving the Indiana Golf Tour Player of the Year honors. In fact, she qualified for the championship flight in the girl's state every year since eighth grade.
The Kokomo, Ind., product was named as a Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) second team All-American in 2004. She averaged a 73.9 as a junior and 74.4 as a senior, including a career-low round of 67 in the final qualifying round of the Girls State Juniors at the Players Club in Muncie, Ind. She was also a four-year All-Conference, All-Sectional, All-Regional and All-State performer, as well as a member of the National Honor Society.
Lindgren has also been involved in the Westfield Junior PGA, where she placed 10th in 2004 after claiming the Westfield Junior Sectional title. She was also a four-time Tri State Challenge Cup participant (2001-04).
Additionally, Lindgren was the Sectional medalist in 2001, 2002 and 2003 and a regional medalist in 2002 and 2003. During her high school career, Lindgren led her team to a state championship, two runner-up finishes and a fifth-place finish. Individually, her lowest finish in the state was third place in 2003.
What is your favorite golf course to play?
"LaCantera (San Antonio, Texas)."
If you had a choice, who would you invite to play a round a golf with and why?
"I would invite Tiger Woods because I have always looked up to him since he has been on the pro circuit. It would be an honor to play with the best golfer in the world."
Why did you choose to become a student-athlete at Indiana?
"After meeting Coach Wallman and the team and seeing the facilities, I couldn't imagine a more perfect fit for myself."
What was the best advice given to you on your way to playing collegiate golf? "My dad always tells me you may be a champion today, but tomorrow is a new day."
What was the highlight/best moment of your golf career up to this point?
"I have three. I would say winning 2004 girls state junior championship, representing the state of Indiana in the Westfield Junior PGA and winning the state championship with the Western High School golf team in 2001."
