Porch Tabbed Assistant

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Dottie Porch, who spent the past three seasons as a co-coach with the Indianapolis Juniors squads and as a member of the WTHR-TV team in the Circle City, has been named assistant volleyball coach at Indiana, head coach Katie Weismiller announced today. Porch replaces former IU standout and assistant volleyball coach Cydryce Carter.
"I am very excited to have Dottie as part of our program," Weismiller said. "She is energetic and a great motivator. Her playing experience is going to be a huge addition to the staff. Additionally, her international experience, along with her All-American credentials as a player, will be a welcome addition and help inspire our squad. It is great that she is from the state of Indiana. She is a great club coach, and her connections to the club and state levels will be very valuable to the Hoosiers."
During her tenure with the Indy Juniors, Porch's 18-1 squad not only qualified for the 2004 USA Nationals, but also advanced every senior into the collegiate volleyball ranks. Previously, her 17-1 team moved on to the 2003 AAU Nationals. Additionally, she evaluated players and helped develop their skill base with specific attention to training the middle blocker corps with practice plans and drills.
"I am very excited about the opportunity," Porch said. "The IU Athletics staff is really just a big family. Everyone is so nice. I am excited about coming there and joining that family. I just hope to make a difference in the volleyball program. After so many years of not playing at the collegiate level, it will be different to be a coach on the other side of the lines. Every volleyball coach is really a player at heart. I think I am up to the challenge."
Before jumping into coaching, Porch played professionally in four separate European professional leagues. From 2000-01, Porch served as the primary outside hitter of her squad in the Ankara, Turkey league. The season before, she performed as an outside hitter in the Lisbon, Portugal league. In 1999-2000, Porch was a utility player and outside hitter in the Vigevano, Italy league and in her rookie season, she was the primary outside hitter for her 1998-99 team in the Orividen Ponnistus league in Orivesi, Finland. During her maiden season, she helped her team to the Suomen Cup and garnered Suomen Cup Player of the Game and European Cup Player of the Game honors.
Prior to her time overseas, Porch began her volleyball career as a standout for the IPFW Mastodons. While at IPFW, the AVCA All-American was a two-time IPFW player of the year, three-time all-Great Lakes Valley Conference and two-time all-region honoree.
