'05 Signee Kinsey Wins Pentathlon

WASHINGTON, D.C. - 2005 Indiana football signee Dan Kinsey claimed the Boys Pentathlon at the 2005 Nike Indoor Nationals held in the Prince George's Sports & Learning Center Complex on Sunday, March 13. The Wellsville, Ohio, native outdistanced Tim Wunderlich, of Westminster, Md., to garner the crown by a margin of 3,736-3,666.
The top six finishers in each event were named to the American Track and Field Magazine All-American team.
"It was average," Kinsey said of his performance. "This was only my third indoor meet coming in, so I feel like I did alright for that."
He posted marks of 8.47 in the 60-meter hurdles, 21-3.50 in the long jump, 51-4.25 in the shot put, 6-1.25 in the high jump and 2:59.67 in the 1,000-meters en route to the victory.
Kinsey was a wide receiver, safety and punt returner for head coach Rich Wright at Beaver Local High School. He earned first team All-Ohio honors as a safety and was named the Northeast Ohio and All-Eastern District Defensive Player of the Year as a senior.
The Hoosiers will open spring practice on Tuesday, March 22. Kinsey will join the football team for summer camp in August.
"We project him as being one of the outside linebackers that we have had success with over the years," Indiana head coach Terry Hoeppner said. "If you are a decathlete, you are pretty well rounded. You can do a lot of things."
