Drop Road Match to UNLV

LAS VEGAS - The No. 27 Indiana women's tennis team lost 6-1 to No. 32 UNLV on Thursday afternoon at Fertitta Tennis Complex. With the loss, the Hoosiers fell to 7-7 on the year, while the Lady Rebels are now 7-3.
UNLV won all three doubles contests and five of the six singles matches en route to the win.
At the No. 1 doubles position, the IU pair of junior Sarah Batty and senior Dominika Walterova fell 8-5 to the team of senior Anne Claire Ortiz-Luis and sophomore Linda Tempelfelde.
UNLV posted wins at No. 2 and 3, as senior Gyorgyi Zsiros and sophomore Claire Smith bested sophomore Laura McGaffigan and freshman Brianna Williams, 8-5, and freshman Elena Gantcheva and Mery Constanti downed senior Dora Vastag and sophomore Cecile Perton by the score of 8-6.
Gantcheva, 29th in the nation, upended Vastag, ranked 99th, 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 1 position, and Batty fell in three-sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, to Zsiros at No. 2,
McGaffigan earned the lone singles victory for IU, 6-3, 6-0, over freshman Sharon Marin at No. 3. The Davenport, Iowa, native is now 19-7 overall and 11-3 in dual action.
Walterova, Williams and Perton all got tripped up at slots No. 4 through 6.
The Hoosiers will return to the courts on Saturday, March 26, for a Big Ten match at No. 53 Purdue. The contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
