BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After a four-day break over the Easter holiday, the Indiana football team returned to work in its fourth day of spring practice on the IU practice fields.
During the offensive versus defensive line drills, Indiana head coach Terry Hoeppner took a few snaps under center and fired up his charges. The squads then united for nine-on-nine drills, which primarily focused on the running game.
The defense jumped right into action, as seniors John Pannozzo and Kyle Killion forced fumbles on two of the initial three offensive possessions.
The quarterbacks and the wide receivers worked one-on-one drills against the cornerbacks, before the offense concentrated on the passing game during the seven-on-seven drills. Redshirt freshman James Hardy made a nice catch toward the end of the period.
The final segment of practice was 11-on-11. The frame was highlighted by a junior Graeme McFarland bootleg and throw to sophomore Nick Sexton, who made an acrobatic catch to complete the play.
The Hoosiers will have their fifth of 15 NCAA-allowed spring practices on Wednesday, March 30, in the late afternoon.
Indiana head coach Terry Hoeppner had the following comments after practice.
On the practice to this point:
TH: "I sometimes come out to practice with expectations that are too high. I think that we are going to make this quantum leap. We have done some good things, and some not so good things on both sides of the ball. We need to keep teaching and they need to keep learning."
On whether the position changes are working:
TH: "So far, so good with all the changes. [John] Pannozzo and [Ryan] Skelton are probably the two biggest moves. Josiah Sears has been running some tailback and that looks like a good move. I don't anticipate a lot more."
On the evaluation of personnel:
TH: "We do it everyday. That is our job right now. We want to get the best players on the field to make plays for us."
