After position-specific drills, the defensive line and linebackers worked on defending the inside run. The defensive backs and cornerbacks broke off and battled in one-on-one's against the wide receivers and quarterbacks.
The Cream and Crimson then got into seven-on-seven drills, while the defensive line worked on its pass rush versus the offensive line.
Redshirt freshman wide receiver James Hardy caught every ball insight, but junior cornerback Buster Larkins picked the defense up by making a pair of interceptions.
Periods 10 through 15 of the practice consisted of team 11-on-11 drills. Some highlights of the session included a strong block from senior wide receiver Jahkeen Gilmore to spring a rush up the middle by sophomore quaterback Blake Powers, and long runs from sophomore fullback Josiah Sears and senior running back Chris Taylor.
The final session of the practice focused on special teams with specific attention to the field goal and punting units.
The Hoosiers will have their sixth of 15 NCAA-allowed spring practices on Friday, April 1, in the late afternoon.
Hoeppner and Gilmore had the following comments after practice.
On the practice today:
TH: "I told them that they needed to play fast today at practice, and we did. I thought today was a winner, with the way that we responded in a positive manner after a sub-par performance yesterday. I was very happy with the effort today. I though we accomplished a lot."
On the sunny weather today:
TH: "The weather cooperated today and we had a lot of people here. It was great to see. I want all our fans to know that practice is open."
On the practice today:
JG: "We have most of our plays down and we are really trying to execute. We are just trying to make big plays. We want to be ready when the ball comes and make things happen out there."
On the new coaching staff:
JG: "They are very energetic and they really get us going each day at practice. They try to get us to work as hard as we can each day."
