Overton Earns Eighth Career Big Ten Award

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's golfer Jeff Overton has been named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week, the league office announced on Thursday. The honor is the eighth of the senior's career. Overton has earned the award at least once during each year he has been in Bloomington.
It is the first accolade for Overton this year, but the All-American is the second Hoosier in three weeks to capture Golfer of the Week honors. Freshman Santiago Quirarte won the award on Mach 17 after finishing fourth at the Pioneer Classic on March 15-16.
Overton finished second individually and helped his team to a third-place finish at the Pinehurst Invitational on March 28-29. The Evansville, Ind., native closed with an even-par 72 and concluded the tournament with a 5-under-par 211 (69-70-72), one shot behind medalist winner Colt Knost of SMU (71-70-69).
The finish was Overton's seventh career runner-up finish and his third this season. In addition, he now has 21 career top fives and 26 career top 10s, including six top fives in eight events this season.
On the season, Overton leads the team with a 70.27 scoring average in 22 rounds.
Overton and the Hoosiers next return to the links at the Boilermaker Invitational. The tournament will be held on Saturday-Sunday, April 16-17, in West Lafayette, Ind.
