In the coming weeks, we will spotlight each IU outgoing-senior individually. The fourth Hoosier in the series is Halasz.
Senior Year (2003-04)
Hoosier co-captain ... helped IU to its best finish at Big Tens in 19 years after the Hoosiers took second in the closest league championship meet since 1948 ... claimed second team All-Big Ten with a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly and the 400-yard medley relay ... Finished in fifth in the 100 butterfly and fourth in the 200-yard medley relay at Big Tens as well ... Took second place with a 1:47.47 in the 200-yard fly at the IU Invite and swam the third leg in both the second-place 200-yard medley relay (1:29.30) against Michigan and the first-place 400-yard medley relay (3:16.53) against the Boilermakers ... named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week for his effort at the Orange Bowl Classic ... won 11 titles ... mentioned 10 times in IU's all-time top 10 charts with three school records (200 fly, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay) to his credit.
Junior Year (2003-04)
Earned All-America honors as part of the 200-meter medley relay that placed seventh at the NCAA Championships ... also earned honorable mention All-America honors as part of the three relays, the 400-meter medley relay (12th), the 200-meter freestyle relay (15th) and the 400-meter freestyle relay (15th) ... individually earned honorable mention status with an 11th-place finish in the 200-meter butterfly ... bettered his own school record in placing second in the 200-yard butterfly at the Big Ten Championships ... also took third at the Championships in the 100-yard butterfly and broke Mark Spitz' 32-year old school record in the event ... swam the butterfly leg on the Big Ten title winning 200-yard medley relay ... garnered first team All-Big Ten honors ... also swam the butterfly leg on the third-place 400-yard medley relay ... placed 15th in the 200-yard IM at the Big Ten Championships as well ... won Indiana Invitational titles in the 200-meter butterfly and as part of the 200-meter medley relay.
Sophomore Year (2002-03)
Finished fourth in the 200-yard butterfly at 2003 Big Tens with a time of 1:46.21...broke own school record in 200-yard butterfly with NCAA provisional time of 1:45.90 in the prelims...was seventh in the 100-yard butterfly, and 11th in the 200-yard individual medley (1:49.64)...swam the butterfly legs of the 200 medley and 400 medley relays that placed fifth and third, respectively, at the Big Ten Championships with NCAA B qualifying cut times.
Freshman Year (2001-02)
At the Big Ten Championships, swam the butterfly leg of Indiana's fourth-place 200 medley relay... finished 12th in the 100-yard butterfly (48.67)...was a finalist in the 200 fly, finishing sixth (1:47.08) ... set a school record time of 1:46.68 in the 200 fly at Indiana Open.
Prep/Personal
Was a 2000 Olympic Trials participant in the 200-meter butterfly ... Was the Virginia short course state champion in the 200-yard fly ... placed 18th in the 200 fly at the 2001 Senior Spring Nationals ... was inducted into the National Honor Society and was a two-time Scholastic All-America selection ... a Biochemistry major.
