Hoosiers Fourth After First Round In Puerto Rico

Georgia State holds the lead after round one with a 9-under 279, followed by Georgia Southern (280) and Southern Mississippi (282).
"I'm very pleased with the way that we played today," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "We are trying to shake off the rust after a long winter break, and we did a good job in the first round today."
Indiana seniors Jeff Overton and Heath Peters shared low honors after each carded first-round 2-under 70's. The classmates rest in fifth, three strokes off the lead, with eight other competitors.
"Jeff had a shaky start and double bogeyed one of the easier holes on the course," Mayer said. "He bounced back like an All-American, playing the last five holes three under par. It was a great way for him to end his round."
Juniors Brad Marek and Scott Seibert each shot even-par 72, while freshman Santiago Quirarte finished 1-over with 73. Marek and Seibert are tied for 19th, with Quirarte tied for 25th.
Aaron Price of Georgia Southern and Georgia State's Ben Taylor sit atop the leaderboard after each fired opening rounds of 5-under 67.
The Hoosiers will continue play with another 18 holes tomorrow, March 7, at 8:15 a.m. On Tuesday, the final round commences with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m.
"This is a very strong field," Mayer said. "It's not a big tournament, in terms of the number of teams, but the field is very solid. I know that we will play much better tomorrow."
