BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana forward D.J. White was tabbed a second-team Freshman All-American by Rivals.com on Monday. The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native is the only rookie from the Big Ten to appear as one of the top 26 freshmen named to a team or to receive honorable mention accolades.White has proven his worth all season long, as he is one of only two IU players to have started all 27 games this season (Robert Vaden). Entering Big Ten Tournament play, White leads all freshmen in the league in points (13.3), field goal percentage (.583) and blocked shots (2.1). He has also been ranked among the league leaders in scoring, rebounding (4.7), field goal percentage and blocks throughout the season.
In addition, White has etched is name in the Indiana record books. His 57 blocks on the campaign ranks as the top mark by a freshman and is eighth on the single season blocks list. Furthermore, his .583 percentage from the floor is the best by a Hoosier freshman since Alan Henderson shot .597 in 1994-95. He also had a 12-game double-figure scoring streak during the season, which was the fifth-best streak by a freshman in school history.
White is the first Indiana player to be named an All-American since Jared Jeffries received the honor after his freshman year in 2001.
