IU Drops Big Ten Opener

"Maybe we were just too excited to play the Big Ten opener today," said head coach Stacey Phillips. "We just didn't seem ready to play, but now we need to shake off this loss and come out tomorrow ready to play and win."
MSU plated five runs in the second, two in the fourth and one in the sixth to earn the run-rule victory.
Indiana junior hurler Megan Roark (8-13), the current Big Ten strikeout and innings pitched leader, did not have her best stuff on the day, pitching just 2 1/3 innings giving up seven runs, six earned, on five hits. She also walked two and struck out four.
The Hoosiers did see the return of junior pitcher Mariangee Bogado. She tossed 3 2/3 innings allowing one run on two hits. Bogado missed IU's last 29 games with an injured left wrist.
Sophomore Rachel Terry was 3-for-3 in the contest. Senior Ashley Griffiths was 2-for-3, while redshirt sophomore Tory Yamaguchi and sophomore Kim Richards each had a hit apiece.
The Cream and Crimson and Spartans will conclude its two-game series with a 1 p.m., match-up tomorrow. Before Saturday's start, IU will honor former Hoosier standout pitcher Amy Unterbrink-Poljan.
