Nixon to Head Columbia WBB (4-12-05)

NEW YORK-- Former Indiana women's basketball assistant coach Paul Nixon has been named the head coach at Columbia University, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education Dr. M. Dianne Murphy at Columbia announced on Tuesday.
"I am extremely excited about this opportunity," Nixon said. "I know there is so much untapped potential at Columbia and I am proud to have been chosen as the person to help rebuild this program."
Nixon, who will begin his first season as a head coach, served as an assistant with the Hoosiers for three seasons under former head coach Kathi Bennett. Nixon also was an assistant coach for the 2004 Big Ten Foreign Tour that recorded a perfect 4-0 record this past summer.
The Macon, Ga., native also had stints as an assistant coach at University of Southern Mississippi (1999-2002), University of Nevada (1997-99), and Marshall University (1994-1997).
